We take this position not out of any outrage at the hunt itself. European limousine liberals' pretensions to moral superiority outrage us more: How can they object to the seal cull and not to their own production of foie gras?Nor do we have any other objection to the hunt. In 2004 we printed in this space a recipe for seal-flipper pie; and we'll still be happy to send a copy to anybody who wants one.But why continue such a costly battle to gain so little? Canada should keep its diplomatic and legal powder dry for more serious fights, such as those over continued depredations by European fishing fleets. It's time to abandon the seal hunt.
