Man Attacked By Bear Because He Smelled Of Fried Chicken

BEAR VALLEY (WKZO) -- Here is a hard lesson learned. The State Department of Natural Resources and Environment said a 21-year-old deer hunter was attacked by a bear and three cubs over the weekend because he smelled like fried chicken and baked pork.

Chad Fortune left a family picnic and was hunting from a tree stand in Bear Creek Township in Emmett County, when the bears climbed the tree to get at him. He kicked at them until they gave up. He suffered bites to his shoulder, thigh and calf. The DNRE said the man stayed in the tree stand for two hours, bleeding waiting for help to arrive.
