Braeden Chamberlain was one of about 10 children taking part in the practice at the Benalto Agriplex. He was wearing a helmet and a chest protector when he fell off, about three seconds into his ride. The steer then stepped on Braeden just below his chest protector. Bystanders administered CPR and an air ambulance team was summoned, but the boy died at the scene. Elbert Koster, a close friend of the family, told the Edmonton Sun Braeden loved the sport, even though he had only been steer riding for about a month. His father was at the arena when the tragedy occurred Friday night, Koster said. RCMP are investigating what they say was a routine practice that turned horribly wrong.
