Animal 0 Posté(e) le 15 mars 2005 From Animalnet March 15, 2005 The Ottawa Citizen A11 Alan Herscovici, Montreal, executive vice-president, Fur Council of Canada, writes that in his opinion article, Bruce Cox proposes that the seal hunt be cancelled because Greenpeace's analysis suggests the herd might be endangered if current hunting levels were maintained. There is a sense of deja vu for those of us who have followed this controversy long enough to remember Greenpeace arguing the same thing more than 20 years ago. The seal herd has more than doubled since then. Some of us also remember Greenpeace apologizing to Inuit people for having contributed to the economic and social damage caused by anti-sealing campaigns. In more recent years, Greenpeace seemed to be trying to focus again on real environmental issues. Perhaps, though, the sight of People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, the International Fund for Animal Welfare, the Humane Society of the United States and other animal-rights protest industry groups again feeding at the lucrative seal-hunt fundraising was just too much to resist?
