Woman Sickened At Petting Zoo Sues Strawberry Festival, Farm

TAMPA, Fla. -- A Pinellas County woman sickened at a fair's petting zoo has filed a lawsuit against the Florida Strawberry Festival and the farm that provided the animals.


Diana Walker, 48, was among at least 30 people, mostly children, who fell victim to E. coli after touching the animals at one of three fairs in central Florida. She was hospitalized for 16 days.


The lawsuit, listing Walker and her husband as the plaintiffs, was filed in Hillsborough County Circuit Court on Wednesday. They are represented by Marler Clark, a Seattle law firm that has represented victims of a number of E. coli cases around the country.

After the outbreak in March, health officials tracked down the infected animals to a Plant City company, Ag-Venture Farm Shows. Ag-Venture supplied the animals to the Strawberry Festival, Florida State Fair in Tampa and Central Florida Fair in Orlando.

A message left with Ag-Venture's attorney was not immediately returned, and a call to the Strawberry Festival's office in Plant City went unanswered.

Marler Clark also has filed a lawsuit on behalf of an Orlando resident who contracted the E. coli infection after a visit to the Central Florida Fair.
