Animal 0 Posté(e) le 7 janvier 2006 Animal groups get €77,000 GRANTS totalling €77,000 have been awarded to animal welfare bodies in Sligo and Leitrim. They are part of a national allocation from the Department of Agriculture and Food of ex-gratia payments totalling E1.2 million to 86 organisations involved in the direct delivery of animal care and welfare services to assist in their work during 2006. The recipients in Sligo are the Irish Raptor Research Centre, Ballymote, E10,000; the Sathya, Sai Sanctuary Trust for Nature, E10,000 and the Sligo Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, E17,000. In Leitrim awards are being made to Leitrim Animal Welfare Trust, E25,000 and Leitrim Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, E15,000. Minister for State John Browne said that he was delighted to be able to help these largely voluntary organisations again this year. "These bodies do excellent work throughout the country in delivering animal care and welfare services." He said he was aware of the increasing demands on their services. "I want to pay tribute to all involved in the organisations and in particular to the efforts and sacrifices made by them in circumstances that are often difficult."
