Continuing our season of Norwegian summer madness, today’s news that Norwegian metal band Mayhem played Hultsfred’s Gates of Metal festival wearing, er, a pig’s head doesn’t really shock us. Well, not that much. It seems Skrikhult Production, who arranged the festival, didn’t know you needed a licence for this sort of shenanigans. “We didn’t know there was a law for this sort of thing,” a spokesperson told Swedish newspaper SvD. As it turns out the Swedish Board of Agriculture states that you have to have a licence for the public use of butchered meat. The law was introduced in 2002 as part of the measures to counteract the spread of Mad Cow Disease. Skrikhult Productions could now face prosecution for breaching Swedish law, reports SvD. Ho hum. The band’s appearance wearing bits of dead animal didn’t upset their fans at the gig. They’re apparently used to it, according to Skrikhult Productions, arrangers of the festival.
