LA Vivisector gives up killing animals

7 Augustus 2006 - In an email received by the North American Animal Liberation Press Office (NAALPO), UCLA vivisector Dario Ringach stated he no longer intended to experiment on non-human primates. No reason has been given for his decision but Mr. Ringach did ask that that his name be removed from websites giving his details.

It is believed, though not confirmed, that one of the reasons for Mr. Ringach's decision could be the fact that another UCLA vivisector, Lynn Fairbanks, had an incendiary device placed outside her home on the 30th June.

Lynn Fairbanks is well known at UCLA for keeping hundreds of Vervet monkeys in cages, in order to study psychological, psychiatric and social problems such as Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder, substance abuse, criminality and violence. Fairbanks has been approved to experiment on 725 monkeys for her research. Shit

According to NAALPO, the subject and first line of the email stated “You win”. Mr Ringach has had several demonstrations by local animal rights campaigners outside his home. According to UCLA PrimateFreedom.com, a website featuring Ringach's work, he “had been approved to kill 30 macaque monkeys for vision experiments. Each monkey is first paralyzed, and then has coils glued to her eyes during a single session that lasts up to 120 hours, and finally killed. Ringach says his experiments will advance our understanding of how monkeys process what they see.” This would appear to be more about curiosity than about any meaningful attempt to understand any problems associated with any illness. Shit
