On ne parle que d'argent perdu !!!!!!!!!!!! ----------------- Tue, Aug. 15, 2006 More than 100,000 chickens die in Nash County fire Associated Press NASHVILLE, N.C. - More than 100,000 chickens died Tuesday when a Nash County poultry house caught fire. By nightfall, smoke still billowed from the remains of the chicken house at Braswell Milling Co. "We've fought very hard trying to save as much of the structure as possible," said Brent Leggett of the Momeyer Volunteer Fire Department. "But it's a large poultry complex, and about three-fourths of it is engulfed in flames." The house was a total loss, he said. Nash County fire marshal's officers were investigating the cause. The fire within the metal structure, which is hundreds of feet long and dozens of feet tall, was difficult to fight because of the ventilation system installed for the chickens, Leggett said. The large open areas fueled the fire. "It's a very complex fire," he said. "It's a whole different scenario than fighting a regular structure fire. The large area inside and the ventilation works against the firefighters."
