Animal 0 Posté(e) le 31 décembre 2006 PHARMACOLOGIST PLANS TO SET UP ANIMAL TESTING LAB IN TAIWAN 2006-12-20 17:23:14 New York, Dec. 20 (CNA) A Taiwanese clinical pharmacologist working with a leading American pharmaceutical company is planning to set up a pre-clinical trial animal testing lab in Taiwan to win out-sourcing contracts from international pharmaceutical companies. Tsang-Bin Tzeng, senior director of the Clinical Pharmacology Department of AstraZeneca, headquartered in Delaware, told Taiwanese investment and trade representatives in New York that the timing is right for Taiwan to have animal testing labs, as most of the international pharmaceutical firms are outsourcing clinical trial works overseas, especially in Asia. Tzeng recently made a trip to Taiwan to visit science and technology parks in Taipei, Hsinchu and Tainan, as well as the export processing zone in Kaohsiung. He said he was impressed by the facilities as well as the government's incentives for investors. He pointed out that with a qualified biotechnology work force and management personnel, Taiwan has an advantage in entering the pre-clinical trial animal testing business. He added that with the establishment of a large lab with up to 3,000 workers, Taiwan can gross 20 percent of the market and the lab may have annual revenue amounting to between US$1.5 billion and US$2 billion.
