Sealing is expected to begin in the gulf of St. Lawrence within the next two weeks. Although this year's quota has yet to be announced, in the past three years, more than a million seals have been killed for their fur making it the largest marine mammal slaughter in the world. More than 95% of seals killed are less than three months old. Protests are planned in Halifax, Montreal, Ottawa, Toronto, Calgary, Edmonton, Kelowna, Nanaimo and Vancouver.
