Just a warning.

One of our CMC members, had been applying a bug repellent containing DEET to his
three dogs - a male Mastiff, a female Mastiff and a male mixed breed. He would
apply it to his hands, then rub his hands lightly over the dogs in areas that
they could not lick. His female Mastiff, after a few days had a seizure that
left her flat out. At first they couldn't pinpoint what was wrong, and all her
blood work came back normal. Her symptoms were consistent with a dog with a
ruptured splenic tumor, but when they opened her up, everything was normal. It
was at that point that he remembered the bug repellent. Turns out that DEET is a
neuro-toxin, capable of producing seizures in both humans and dogs when used in
even small concentrations. Females seem to be more susceptible. It is absorbed
via the skin and flushed out with the urine. She is completely back to normal
now.
