  4. je transmet " My thanks to the society for the invitation and generous hospitality and especially to the exhibitors for their support. Also special thanks to Amelie Chaine for her hard work as Secretary and for her help. I am always honoured that anyone should seek my opinion of their Stafford. I hope they all enjoyed the day, despite the poor weather. My general observations were that the overall quality of the dogs was very good, especially in the intermediate classes which had the best of the dogs. I was particularly impressed by the excellent feet of the exhibits overall, which were neat and tight, with short nails and good padding. Also, straight limbs with good strength of bone – these are the important columns of support for the dog. Head shapes are very typical of the breed, with only one or two having less width than I would prefer to the muzzle area. Toplines also were generally very good and held on the move. Ear placement was excellent, set well on the skull, and in the main carried well with just a couple having slightly higher carried ears, but not enough to cause concern. Mostly too, tail set and carriage was very good. There were a couple of dogs with less than perfect bites but again most were acceptable and teeth were clean and of good size. My dog and bitch CAC and RCACs were very typical of the breed and moved with style. The BOB dog I felt had the correct balance required, and presented himself well in the group ring, despite the rain, to gain Group 2. The junior winners too were of very good type but do need a lot of work on their ringcraft – they are worth the effort! And the puppy bitch especially looks like she will develop into a very nice specimen of the breed. My only criticisms in general were that quite a few exhibits have more length to the back, which while not a big problem, especially if it doesn’t affect their topline, needs to be considered for breeding and try to correct. Also, although coat conditions were excellent with texture and cleanliness very good, some dogs could have been presented with better muscle tone. Everything has to be taken into consideration as it is the overall dog which is being judged. Bonne chance! Lesley McFadyen
