My guess is 5 as well. I think I see one little fella off to the right just barely sticking his head up out of the water, under some reeds. I how you can see the reflection of the big guy stretching his neck out, in the water.

Where's Waldo?

Great pictures Jeremy Smile

Before I start counting the Painted Turtles in Nick's photo, I'll post a telling turtle pic of my own. This was taken early last Fall on a well-travelled cottage road in North-Central Ontario. This little chelonian made it across the road......with a little help from a friend.........Many more turtles, sadly, don't make it past the death-dealing gauntlet of speeding cars and trucks that fill Ontario Cottage Country roads every season. Who cares about a stupid snake or turtle when stopping or swerving slightly would require even a small effort? I mean, some millionnaire might be a few minutes late for his appointment to mow the football-field-sized front lawn at his satellite-dish-and-bigscreen-TV-equipped Luxury Retreat by the lake...........

Since everyone is posting great Northern Watersnake shots, I'll add some of my own to the growing pile. Ugly Brown Snakes indeed Wink.

Look........it's a Naturally-Occurring Deformity Cool. As opposed to all the un-natural ones we're inundated with in the Hobby these days........ Razz ..........

She doesn't seem to be suffering from that old injury, though. She looks healthy enough to me. But she's a "wild snake". I've been told by "experts" recently that "wild snakes" are all full of parasites and just waiting to die. Could the man at the Pet Store have been wrong about that too??? Hmmmmmmm........... Mr.Red

Actually, she was doing rather well for herself. She was quite clearly gravid, and likely about to give birth very soon. This is the latest in the season that I have found a still-gravid natricine this far North..................It was September 24, 2008 to be exact.

We didn't observe her for very long. Once she had tired of our intrusion into her domain, she chose to retreat to the safety of a rock crevice. "See ya later, Stumpy! Best of luck with the new family". Wink

One more habitat shot. This Northern Vista is the rugged shoreline home of many a fine Nerodia sipedon sipedon.

A beautiful woodland pond, only minutes away from that same rocky shoreline . I can hardly wait to see this one in the Spring of 2009. It's always filled with breeding Wood Frogs, Rana sylvatica, and American Toads, Bufo americanus Cool .

Regards,
D.

ps - Good to see our pal "rancor_" in fine form........angry again, as usual Mad . Somebody has to keep all this fun and frivolity in check!

Don to expand on the chelonian cottage crushers... I recall a study done with rubber turtles on roads & roadsides where the greater number of drivers were actually witnessed to swerve towards the animal rather than just following their course or even making an attempt at swerving out of the way.

I'll see if I can find it later but it frankly just filled me with well....rancor

Wow.

I need to make a doctors appointment tomorrow morning, my jaw is very sore from stretching so much and then hitting the floor LOL! LaughingLaughing This thread seems to have taken on a life of its own, it is growing like a weed right before my eyes. I have to thank Manu, Marc, Justin, Stav, and all the other Repticlic bosses for allowing this incredibly good conversation to happen here Cool . What a breath of fresh air.

I'll try my hand at Nir's turtle quiz, I think I can count 7, maybe even 8 painters:

Its hard to tell with the last 3 'possible' turtles (NOT 'possible HETS' LOL Razz ) since the resolution on the pic is pretty small, but I think theres more than 5 for sure.

Too bad about the road kills, too. I have seen it many times in the past few years on the way to the cottage. I have heard of the study that Spankenstyne is talking about. Seems like lots of drivers do try to deliberately hit animals (especially herps) on the road, I cant even imagine what type of person would get pleasure from that kind of act.

As are most "TV Shows". Razz

Funny story, Nick.........I have recently received e-mails from several people telling me that they have read on "The Internet" that I myself have these so-called "tessara" corns.......apparently they are valued at $1200.00 per messed-up cornsnake. Again, for those who care about such matters, I do not. And I never have. These same Vebsytes evidently have reported that I am "moving to Edmonton, Alberta". Again, I am not. What's with these people? Can't they find something/someone else to talk about? Perhaps they are they growing tired of their own endless, repetitive comments about "my balls", and the various permutations thereof ............? You know, the garbage that actually passes for "humour" with these "Investors", these clods who somehow feel the knee-jerk requirement to constantly repeat the same tired, unfunny, puerile junk that they have all dined out on for so long now. Ad nauseum. Hasn't that juvenilia been strip-mined deep past the bedrock?? I would respectfully say, "Give that crap a rest, guys........for your own self-respect, if for nothing else......" Razz

It all makes me so mad, I feel like posting a photograph of a snake eating another snake. Yup.......that's what it makes me feel like doing..............

Sad part is, I wish I did have a few $12,000.00 "tessaroo" corns here so I could feed them to a Drymarchon. Any Drymarchon, really.........

Here's a Cribo of a slightly different kind......

I thought that I'd revive an old "classic" portrait here on Repticlic.......This one seems to be popular for some reason.......

"Yucatan" Blacktail Cribo.

Cribo in palm tree.

Cribo in banana tree.

Angry Eastern Indigo. Don't mess with this Morph-Eating Machine. Don't even think about it. Cool

Thanks, but you know who really has to be thanked for their beauty, the Drymarchon master himself.

I'm going to attempt to breed them throughout the year. The previous owner(how many people can figure out where they came from Question ) had the pair together for some time before they came here to me. I do have another female that has just entered ecdysis so once that is done I will put them together and see what happens. Will see, I'm not experienced with breeding these wonderful Drymarchons but hopefully I can get some good advice.

So let me get this straight, he says its not ok for me to keep and breed Bee's and Spiders, but its ok for a know nothing a$$hole to feed perfetly good snakes (that could be sold to a good home) to other snakes? And the guy keeps garter snakes, oh great be so proud of your little garter snakes like a 10 year old kid would, LMAO. How much are your little garter snakes worth, Mr.."reptile expert"?? Prolly your whole collection is worth less than one of my breeder Bees. Try to get a new 7 series with the money from a bunch of stupid garter snakes. Is that you, "Brandon"??

I must admit, I'm rather honoured to learn that someone of such stature cared enough to follow me here. The embarrassingly poor writing skills aside, I mean.

Or maybe it's really the legendary Baron Von Corkenheimer, in disguise? You know, the not-so-Self-Made "Duke Of Deformity"??

Ah, it's probably not him........I find it more than a little curious, though, because............well........it sounds a lot like him and is reminiscent of his "debating level" or what laughably passes for "style" in some quarters........Nah............he's likely far too busy making millions of dollars to be wasting valuable time posting on a Thread like this little one. Pure 100% Crap.

Whats with these bitter and yappy types? I personally dont come here to read this kind of pointless and weak 'flame' garbage, I come here to learn and yes even to laugh a little. Posters like this clown contribute nothing, because its clear they have NOTHING to say. If you dont like it dont search it out to read it. That simple. Try and read that ridiculous insulting post and get anything from it except that the poster (and his 'kind') has a 'personal problem' with someone who many of us feel is the best writer and photographer on ANY reptile site. Period. This is why so many reptile keepers don't take most reptile boards seriously, and avoid them, especially 'one' board in particular where "cash is king", and stupidity, ugly colour-morphs and childish 'bans' rule. JSI, Jon Davidson, Don, "me", we've all been 'banned' and then 'unbanned' at another site for what terrible crimes I'm still not sure. It shouldn't be a crime to have and state an unpopular opinion, should it.

To you beekeeper I would say:

Enjoy your investments because obviously thats what you're into. Money and cars, bla bla bla, are so important to you and the mutant snakes in plastic drawers are just what gets you to what you really value in life, thats pretty clear. Most people on this thread have a respect for nature, and also for Mr. Pogue and his always enjoyable and informative posts. I seriously doubt that Don cares what some little worm like you thinks about him LOL. Go back where you came from, as you are truly respected there. But not here.

steven

PS "Prolly" Embarassed . Look, I know I'm not the best writer or speller, but "prolly" ? Did you fail grade 3 English? What a clown.
PPS Nobody is talking about KEEPING Masassauga rattlers here, why does it always have to be about "owning" things all the time? Confused
PPS "Get off MY lawn too!"

Nice to see this 'Master Of De Puppets' douchebag has found a new home, he was stinking up the old one for the rest of us there. Also great to see animal cruelty being encuraged feed one snake to another is ok is it?? So let me get this straight, he says its not ok for me to keep and breed Bee's and Spiders, but its ok for a know nothing a$$hole to feed perfetly good snakes (that could be sold to a good home) to other snakes? And the guy keeps garter snakes, oh great be so proud of your little garter snakes like a 10 year old kid would, LMAO. How much are your little garter snakes worth, Mr.."reptile expert"?? Prolly your whole collection is worth less than one of my breeder Bees. Try to get a new 7 series with the money from a bunch of stupid garter snakes. The dealer would laugh in your face, like most big snake breeders do now. I'm sick of hearing this anti morph crap all the time. Morphs are here to stay, how many people want to invest in normals? Your just another washed up old timer who cant even touch real pioneers like Corey Woods, Mark Mandic or Jeff Favelle. At least those top breeders have accomplished something worthwhile in this industry. Meaning something positive. Any of those breeders make more selling BP's or boa's in a week than this loser will make in 10 years!! BP morphs are the future of this industry, get used to it. And thanks for posting the missassaga rattlesnake pics, which BTW they are ILLEGAL TO KEEP Mr. expert!! Oh and I wonder how many of these 'original' photos are actually COPIED from the net and past off as his own??? Maybe all this stupid crap is why he was BANNED from Canadas biggest AND best reptile forum?? LMAO!!!

It must be someone else. Yes, that's it........it's someone else.

Nevertheless, whomever this cluck is, all I can say is..............

GET OFF MY LAWN.

Regards,
D.

ps - "LMAO" indeed.
No, No Don let him stay on my lawn,so i can use him for some compost for my lawn,oh no thats not good cause then i would have to spend all day ripping out the bad weeds,oh yes it's good i luv ripping things out of there sockets Twisted EvilTwisted Evil Cheers Frenchie the Roughneck

this probably defines you as someone with no interest in reptiles whatsoever.

Steven (LD/50) has once again got a very good point. We should try and keep this about the snakes we enjoy.

I was hoping the lack of activity over the weekend in this thread would lead to some great field shots of Ontario herps that people were seeing???

Jeremy

P.S. $225!!!! for a corky? It must be het for Red Axanthic or something

It seems our little picnic has been visited by some arthropods... Inevitable though, there’s alot of value here in this thread... With so many personal attacks in one post, I can’t help but wonder why it affects you so, Mr. or Mrs. Beekeeper, that someone such as Mr. P. Voices his opinion as freely on the internet as you have. It would seem to me, that you have more to thank him for than to berate him. Afterall, he has been keeping and breeding P. Regius far longer than the “pioneers” you listed in you clever missive. Should you not show more respect to someone that has advanced legislation and captive propagation of a multitude of species? It’s laughable that you would even hint at trying to educate him, or anyone else on this thread about anything other than Bayerische Motoren Werke, if that is indeed where you’re true interest lies. I feel it would be counterproductive for me to try to illustrate how erroneous your post is, dealing with the language barrier issues you must face trying to communicate in English. I do appreciate how difficult it is though, I too would seem as poorly versed in the art of language should I try to compose a post longer than a few words, here on this French site outside our Lounge.... I welcome you, however, "Beekeeper" to stick around, pull up a chair in the back, sit quietly... and listen. Gina will be by shortly. LaughingYou might just learn a thing or two about your newest hobby.... You never know, there may just be a couple experienced people here with a couple beautiful non-morphs that you might want to add to your collection, someday.... Wink

However, I feel it is pertinent to the current situation of backlash towards one individual, both public and behind the scenes, to point out that if it weren’t for people like the “puppet master”, there would be a void in the resource that many people (myself included) utilize and a chasm in the community as a whole. Not many people are capable of teetering on the line between bureaucrats, mainstream and the J&W, all in one residence. Between fieldwork (past and present), personal “projects” (past and present) and making sure that even people like you can enjoy coming into a hobby that is as fascinating as it is educational, we are all fortuitous that a bigger picture is always in the foreground.

Why is it that the so called “purists” are the enemy in the hobby then? We morph haters are only looking beyond what short term investors deem valuable. Someone that has never even held a reptile coming into herptoculture is welcomed in with open arms by the “pioneers” of deleterious gene breeding, why? Because it’s good for business. Some one speaking openly about the damage this causes is branded as evil simply because it’s “bad for business”, to be silenced at all costs. There is a word for people that attempt to sequester knowledge, and they shouldn’t exist in the society we are led to believe we live in....

Morphs of no kind are the long term future in this hobby. They can’t be. The past 15 years of butchery will probably only elevate the need for closed collections that are unviolated by the lack of convictions that keepers let dominate their cash obsessed minds. The inability to find an unadulterated animal will eventually make wild-types the prize, and the mutants that spew forth from the cloacas once again will be fodder for the pickle jar, or fed to “perfectly healthy snakes”. I have to believe it, even if the wisdom of the keeper says otherwise.

Post scriptum :

PPS: Something for the bees.....

PPPS: A photographer stealing internet pictures...... study
PPPPS : “Good day, PussCake!” Wink
