thanks J-M for the translation (i understand most of the french language but writing is another thing . i really s*ck at it) i have the 2 different forms of subfusca, and i was planning to keep them separated and mate form with same form. i'm against mixing species (hybrides). if i have any doubt that the 2 species i'm going to mate are the same, i just don't mate them. but with the P. subfusca it is very easy to see the difference

having a couple is nothing, having them to breed is often easy. but getting the female to make an eggsac?? i have an adult male of this species and put it with one of the females (of the last picture) but they didn't show any interest in each other. i left them alone for some time but nothing. so i removed the male and will try again later... as soon as my breeding goes well i will show them off here -

i'm sorry to hear that it's that difficult in canada i've been looking for this spider also for a long time. finding them wasn't that difficult, but finding them for a price i could afford. t think this is one of the most beautiful spiders of africa. i'm more into asian spiders but this one i just had to have in my collection. i was lucky i could purchase a juvenile couple of somebody i know for a very decent price. (decent for these spiders that is )

hello i don't know if i understood all of the above but this is the way i always do it: if i have multiple females for 1 male, i try the first female, if she is not in the mood i immediately try another one. if she was in the mood and an insertion took place, i take the male away and put hem in his own terra. i feed him and wait for a new spermweb to be made just to make sure he's 'loaded'. then i put him with the next female and so on and so on... sometimes when he had only one good insertion (with only one bulb i mean), i try again with the same female without waiting for a web. it also depends on the mood of the female with Poecilotheria's i put the male in with the female for 2 weeks, than back in his own terra until i see the remains of a spermweb and then with the other female. if i have an even number male/female Poeci', i just put them together and let them co-habitate (never had any problems so far...) some people who have multiple males try to mate the same female with as many males as possible. just to increase the chance on a fertile sac, because some males have the tendency to be infertile or 'shoot blanks )

Cocon Smithi : déroulement et déboires

hello MissP. congratulations about feeding the spider when she's carrying an eggsac: that shouldn't cause any problems, just wait a few weeks and try it with a cricket. all the times i have done this, the female let her eggsac go, took the cricket , ate it, and then continued to take care of the sac. i've never had any problems with it. but i look at it case by case, some spiders i don't feed, and others (when i'm worried about them dying or something like that) i do feed... so it's up to you -
