    Breeding Females

I know on average, that in order to breed female BCI they are to be at least 3 years of age. Some people say at least 5lbs, some say otherwise. I was curious to what some of the breeders say here. What is the "rule" you go by? I have a female (as most have seen) that I bought from Stav back in 2007 that I am wanting to breed. Im very unsure though if I ever can. Her mom was a very small BCI so I am assuming my girl took those genetics along with her. She is roughly 3.5 years old now and 6-7lbs. She may be more as the last time I weighed her she was 6lbs 3 months ago. I have been feeding her 1/2lb rabbits and large rats twice a month but she just doesnt grow anymore lol. She is 5'4" and has been for the past 8 months. What do you guys think? Here she is, as most of you know. bad photo but the best recent photo I have of her to show her girth If possible, I plan on breeding her to my "special" male or his brother (a sunglow) On a side note, hopefully this big girl will be a mom this upcoming season Size comparison(at a reptile presentation for those who are wondering) and dad to be if things work out..what a size difference lol

    A Few "Normals"?

Something I always find interesting about boids(ball pythons being a good example)...normals are not always so normal. My first boa I have ever purchased to me, was a normal and may still be. I always will have speculations about her though as she may very well be some sort of Paradox Arabesque (her mom was paired up with an Arab and a het albino) her siblings also had alot of lateral striping and speckling. One even had a solid stripe down both sides. Ever since I bought her back in 07 Ive been on the look out for another one that looks like her, which I did get at the CRBE. He may not have that lateral striping and heavy speckling but he sure is as black as my girl! I love the contrast of their black on the grey background. The day my girl is of size(she is of age) to breed, Im pairing up the two and seeing if I get any black and gray babies. Hopefully one day line breed them into a trait or something along the lines of a "Black Anery" or "Black Tail" type of thing. I have been, and still am questioned from people if my girl is an Anery..or even a wacky looking longicauda. Anyway, to stop rambling on .. Photos were taken quickly, so not the best quality A photo of a "pastel" (normal) boa... and my male(Aeroh) who was in his dark phase for the photos and who is the one I want to breed to my girl Aeroh Ayres, his future girlfriend once she gets bigger, if she ever does. She seemed to have "stopped" growing at 5' Aeroh(top) and Ayres next to each other (both were in their dark phase) sorry bad photo. Aeroh and Ayres again, tail comparison Let me know what you guys think! Aeroh was bred by Jon and Kevin Neill in Ontario. Ayres was bred by Stav T, I know some people here have her siblings..they are very obvious when I see photos posted
  4. I gave my female Argus to a friend of mine that has a male. What's better then to have more Argus running around then holding my female back and having no babies?? They both got along in an instant, no fighting at all....they got a little to comfortable within an hour. I cant wait to see some babies!!!

  6. Have yet to name them but they are an adult pair of Toad Headed Agamas from China. Phrynocephalus spp. Thinking they are Phrynocephalus theobaldi however... not sure though. They are only 4 inches long (roughly) and adults! Anywho, PHOTOS!!! Female- who has already eaten and drank water for me...yay Male - has yet to eat or drink for me (they only drink moving water or droplets on head) Female on left Bad photo of enclosure.... they are ants in this cage lmao! They have a MVB and a Flourescent as I have no idea how old the MVB is female Male I couldnt help but buy these 2...I missed my Pale Agamas and needed agamas in my life again lol despite me being the boa and monitor person. Any ideas for names??
  7. Finally! When I got her she was very shy to eat infront of me, it would be about 3 mice 2 times a week, now she has gotten much more used to me and uses me to eat on LOL! Im very glad she has the typical Argus attitude showing and loves loves loves her food.. but of course she doesnt get as much as her belly wants. Going after a half a rabbit pink (she stole the chick I was trying to get a photo of before) mm rat

    Varanus melinus

Amazing melinus!!! One of my favorites!

    Invert Colors?!

She is away from other snakes at the moment, I know what zucker rats are, I will never use those, even for pythons or monitors. I'll see what happens in the next couple sheds. Im not really worried as she is still acting normal.

    Invert Colors?!

she has been perfectly fine. The scales are very smooth as if nothing happened (not rough or anything). I have seen this before and it went away next shed, but just not this much of it at once. Im not to worried, just curious to what people think cause this to happen

    Invert Colors?!

Her cage is very clean, and average of 60% humidity. I keep my young boas in a rack system so she cant really rub against anything....that is what got me confused

    Invert Colors?!

Well, I caught my longicauda finishing up her shed tonight, and I saw a little patch of...white and blue..ish. Ive seen boas with one or two white scales every now and then after shed but I have never seen this????? She has a white spot on her left "cheek" (jaw muscle) ever since I got her in February but this is new. Let me know what you think of this...it's almost like her colors inverted! If you look closely, you can still see she does have pattern in the patch You can see the white spot on her head in this photo that she has always had
  14. Actually, for both. They are both more than ready to breed, so this is supposed to be their love nest... Oo la la Please do keep me updated on that!!
  15. Thanks Nick!! I remember always mentioning Argus Monitors to you lol!!! I plan on enjoying her very very very much. Even more so when she starts to trust me
  16. I recently traded my Fine Line 66% het albino BCI and Stav Line Hypo for this stunning girl!!!!! Ive always wanted an Argus Monitor and finally I own one! She is 5 years old and has laid infertile clutches in the past. She's a hissy one but no biting at all. Introducing, Jade! Her enclosure is a bit small for her as I was expecting a smaller one, but that will change soon. In the mean time she gets LOTS of exercise outside Here is her having a very rare treat (infertile eggs...i dont like to give eggs often as they are a bit fatty) to get myself on her good side lol
